I just love getting my period. My hair is shiny, my skin glows and I always wear white pants. Of course its my favourite time to ride a horse on the beach & lets not forget how happy & rational I am…..said no “real” person ever!!!
Thankfully the days of just reaching for the pain killers & chocolate are behind me (ok that’s a fib about the chocolate!). But like most areas in my life, since discovering the power of essential oils I feel empowered to take control of my health & hormones with natural remedies. Below are my top picks for all things hormonal.
Clary Calm is my number one saviour when feeling hormonal. It’s a doTERRA proprietary blend designed to support women during their menstrual cycle. In the few days leading up to my cycle I start applying it to my abdomen, then I apply it to my abdomen & the soles of my feet every morning during my cycle. Ylang Ylang & Geranium are a great duo for hormonal & adrenal support. Ylang Ylang helps to transform you from the Wicked Witch of the West to Glinda the Good Witch! It has a beautiful calming and uplifting effect and the natural ability to soothe. The rich and sweet aroma of Ylang Ylang creates a really tranquil & relaxing atmosphere. Combined with Geranium, which is great for reducing fatigue & inflammation and also smells divine, these oils will really help balance your mood. It’s a beautiful one for the diffuser but could also be diluted with a carrier oil for relaxing massage or added to magnesium salts to totally bliss out in the bath.
Frankincense the king of oils, how could we not include it! The deep woody aroma alone makes me feel relaxed. A few drops into the palm of my hands & deeply inhaled is my go to for a quick reset when I’m feeling stressed, anxious or hormonal. Frankincense can help support the nervous system & is reported to balance emotions by lowering the stress hormone cortisol. Not just for hormonal issues but a great one for stress, anxiety, thyroid & autoimmune issues.
So while a hot choccy (preferably spiked with wild orange oil!) is still a monthly necessity for me, I feel more in-tune with my body & mind using these natural supports rather than a pain killer to mask the pain.
